London is home to 14 registered city farms, where sheep are sheared annually, resulting in over a tonne of high-quality fleece that goes to waste due to the small size of these farms and the lack of commercial viability in delivering it to the Wool Board. The primary objective of this project is to gather all the fleece from city farms in London and Greater London to reach a sufficient quantity for a commercial production of yarn, which can be sold at a fraction of its original price, utilising the oldest and most experienced factories for wool processing and spinning in Yorkshire.
As a token of appreciation for their contribution, the farms will receive knitting/crochet packs, including a skein of exceptionally soft wool and a pattern to sell, raising much-needed funds for their charitable organisations, while the project will be documented for educational purposes to showcase the farm-to-fashion process.
