Discover the transformative journey from city farms to sustainable fashion with the London City Farm Yarn Project. Growing up near a city farm in Birmingham sparked my passion for volunteering and sustainable textiles, leading to the creation of Ossian Knitwear, a brand dedicated to utilizing local, natural fibers. My research into rare British sheep breeds revealed that London’s 14 city farms have many of these breeds living in London, together they produce over a ton of fleece annually, much of which goes to waste due to processing limitations. By collaborating with 10 city farms, we’ve collected 1.192 tons of fleece from 16 sheep breeds, producing quality yarn ready for crafting affordable knitwear. Support our initiative to turn this wool into machine and hand-knitting yarns, hats, gloves, and more, while benefiting the farms through profit-sharing and educational outreach.
