Yarn and trends for knitwear
Florence – June 24
Last week I visited Pitti Filati in Florence, I have visited this trend show of yarns and knitwear many times over the last 25 years and it is still one of my favorite work trips, not only because it was based in Florence but also because It is a few days when you can focus on inspiration and creativity, meeting up with friends in the industry and sharing ideas and enthusiasm for knitwear. After a break of about 5 years since my last visit, it was great to see the focus was still on creativity with the additions of a vintage forum and show space for new graduate designers. Although there were sustainable yarns in most spinners’ new ranges the synthetic yarns and blends were still prominent, with the continued trend for lurex and shine this is unlikely to change anytime soon, during this time of hardship for businesses and customers, something exciting is needed to convince people to part with their hard-earned money, the real challenge is to make sustainable yarns as exciting as the synthetic options.
