Stepney City Farm is a 4.5 acre working farm; a rural oasis, in the heart of Tower Hamlets. Giving children and adults a chance to meet farm animals, learn how to grow food and try out arts and crafts. With have an extensive education programme, and over 5,000 school children and young people benefiting from funded classes, tours, and projects each year.
Residents in London’s East End got together in 1979 to set up a community farm on a derelict site bombed in World War II, originally called Stepping Stones Farm. A new charity – Stepney City Farm– made up of local residents who tirelessly volunteered their time, effort and creativity, took over in 2010. Work by people from all ages and backgrounds has brought about an increase in the number of paid staff who have in turn been able to generate change through their leadership and skill.
Stepney city farm to this day remains an educational charity working to improve lives through farming; providing a welcoming green space to bring together our diverse community, and cultivate wellbeing through high welfare and environmentally friendly farming practices.
